Arpana Caur

Born in 1954. She has held numerous solo and group shows in India and abroad. A recipient of many honours and awards, including All India Fine Arts Society Award, VI Triennale Gold Medal for painting (international exhibition). Arpana was nominated eminent artist by Lalit Kala Akademi (1990-92), commissioned by Hiroshima Museum to execute a large work for its permanent collection on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the holocaust (1995) and served as jury member National exhibition, New Delhi (1989) and advisory committee member, National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi and Sahitya Kala Parishad (2001). Arpana’s works are part of various museums (National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Chandigarh Museum, Ethnographic Museum Stockholm, Kunst Museum, Dusseldorf, Bradford Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, U.K. Glenbara Museum, Japan, Hiroshima Museum of Modern Art, Japan, Singapore Museum of Modern Art, Rockfeller Collection, New York) and institutions in India and the world. She has executed 10 non commercial murals on the theme of environment from 1981 to 2005 in public spaces in Delhi, Hamburg and Bangalore. Arpana lives and works in New Delhi where she is involved with social causes too.
